User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0

Steps to reproduce:

My History setting:
Use custom settings for history:
✔️ Remember browsing & download history
✔️ Remember search & form history
✔️ Clear history when Firefox closes >> Settings >> only History is checked, the others remained unchecked

Actual results:

After the newest update, all of my form history are gone.

Expected results:

Firefox used to still remember what I have typed in into any forms in most of the websites with the settings above. Now I have to uncheck 'Clear history when Firefox closes' if I want my browser to remember any form history.

Summary: Firefox doesn't save filled form info → Firefox deleted form fill information (clear on shutdown set to 'history' now includes form history)

We've merged form history and browsing history into the "history" category in the new dialog. We're currently evaluating whether we want to separate them again based on user feedback.
To work around this bug you can go to about:config and set privacy.sanitize.useOldClearHistoryDialog to true. Make sure to double check your clear on shutdown settings after that. Form history should now appear as a separate item again which you can leave unchecked to not clear form history on shutdown.

Thank you, I've managed to find and turn on the option. If you're gathering user feedback then I'm in the side to separate these two just like it originally is. I was very shocked and thought I did something wrong with my FF when all of my form fills disappeared and had to re-type a lot of forms in a lot of websites, which was a hassle in itself.

We appreciate the feedback. As Paul said, we're considering improvements to the new clear data dialog. Slight reword of this bug will make it easier for us to refer to it.

Yes feel free to do so. Apologies, English is not my first language and I don't know how to best describe it.

No problem at all. Thank you for submitting the bug.

IMO the history should be split into four parts:

  • browser history
  • download history
  • search history
  • form history

If you think this is too complicated for the average user, then I suggest adding a basic and advanced view for the delete history and custom settings dialogs (like it is on Chrome if I not misremember).

Thanks for the feedback! We are actually working on (re)splitting form history in the options in Bug 1888466. Future work and redesigns regarding this issue may include adding an advanced section with further separation of options.

Closing this as a duplicate of Bug 1888466 to avoid confusion.

Hello, after the latest update (149.0.0) Firefox again forgets the form history after browser close. Please help.

though not all forms I suppose. In one site I frequents, one form remembers, the other doesn't.

Maybe the affected website is using an unusual sort of form? Or are several websites affected by this? Did you check with the Firefox dev tools yet?

I don't know with other websites because this is the one website I use the most.
How do I check with Firefox dev tools? What do I need to inspect? Thanks!

Seems like nobody cares about this bug so I decided to downgrade because I can't stand having my browser forgets every form history after a browser close.

Have you made sure that you've unchecked "Saved form info" from the items that are getting cleared on shutdown?
If that option is unchecked, what are websites where form history gets cleared on shutdown for you?

THat is not how it looks like in my end.

This has been my setting for forever. I downgraded to 148 so I am not sure if the setting changed in 149.

Yes, the old clear data dialog was removed in Bug 1856418. Please: If you need to downgrade, switch to esr140, which receives all the security fixes: https://www.firefox.com/en-US/download/all/desktop-esr/. Switching to esr will not solve the problem of the dialog for you, but only prolong to a later time (when esr140 becomes gets end-of-life https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=esr). Is there any functionality missing from the new dialog that is keeping you on the old?

But looking at your screenshot, it also has separate checkboxes for form data and history. Do I understand correctly that the bug is with the old dialog?

I can't reproduce with the new dialog. And with the old dialog removed from the code base, we're not going to fix the old version. We can't support multiple versions of the dialog forever (but we can improve the current one).
