Many thanks to @cmkm for filing this request and creating the screenshots while I was on PTO! Everything looks good to me, and the screenshots cover all the new updates. One thing I'd like to emphasize is that the new text formatting options (under the Advanced section) are accessibility-focused features. Character spacing and word spacing in particular can help improve reading fluency, in accordance with the WCAG AA guidelines. It could be helpful to highlight this purpose as most users will be unfamiliar with character and word spacing.
Additionally, part of the new functionality includes the ability to add additional fonts to choose from in Reader View. Right now, the only way to do that is by editing an array stored in a pref via about:config
.
The steps would be:
about:config -> Search reader.font_type.values
Add the new font in the array
Reload Reader View by refreshing the page
Find the new font you’ve added in the dropdown
This is a feature that users have requested often, but it was out of scope for this project to build an in-UI method for importing fonts. I understand we want to avoid about:config
in the article itself, but it would great if there was a way for tech-savvy users to discover this feature. This could be accomplished through a SUMO forum thread, or a11y has also suggested linking to a Mozilla Hacks blog post that highlights accessibility features and workarounds in Reader View.
That is not really how the Support Forum operates (it is more of a place for users to ask support questions), but I am working on an equiavlent situation (different project) and we are looking to do a MDN Hacks blog - a better place for that type of content still keeping it within Mozilla, but away from SUMO (and a better place for a hack like that).

In case it helps, there's a SUMO KB article about accessibility features in Firefox.

Hey Lucas, thanks for working on the article! I'm the lead engineer on this project. Looks great overall, one small nit:
- Under Font Style, there are Serif, Sans-serif, and Monospace options.
- The font weights available are Light, Regular, and Bold.

Hi Irene! I really appreciate you reviewing it on such short notice. It’s been pretty hectic the past few days, so I apologize for not getting the draft to you sooner. I’ve updated the font info and made the content live. Let me know if any more tweaks are needed.
