User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:129.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/129.0
Steps to reproduce:
Writing an email and switching on the encryption via the encryption-button in a new-message window.
Actual results:
A red crossed-out padlock icon is shown in the "subject"-field for indicating the presence of encryption.
Expected results:
I would expect a non-crossed-out icon, as a crossed-out icon rather symbolizes the absence of the function.
For instance Firefox uses the non-crossed-out padlock icon for indicating the presence of HTTPS.

This icon is to only show that the subject isn't encrypted. Try to toggle in the menu Security/Encrypt Subject
.
Maybe for a better feedback there should be a tooltip.

Ah, ok I understand... and a tooltip would help (me).
But i could not find the "Security/Encrypt Subject" in the menu of my 128.1ESR-Version :-(
I searched also in all the other config menus. Any hint where to find this?

I'm sorry, but in my installation there are no "Encrypt Subject", "Key Assistant" or "Key Manager" entries.
The only entries are "Encrypt" Digitally Sign" and "View Certificates of Recipients".
Is this something new from the beta or daily-Versions?

Then it's probably because you don't use PGP?
Maybe.
I don't use PGP because our company uses MIME certificates.
Anyway, thanks for your help!

For S/MIME there's no way to encrypt subject.

Bug 1913251 - Add a tooltip to the msgEncryptedSubjectIcon. r=#thunderbird-reviewers
[Approval Request Comment]
User impact if declined: not clear what the icon in the subject means
Testing completed (on c-c, etc.): on c-c
Risk to taking this patch (and alternatives if risky): low. There is a new string but Magnus meant this would be okay.

Approved for beta.
The new string is acceptable. Localizers should have enough time to translate it.
