Details

(Keywords: access, Whiteboard: hcm)

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:129.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/129.0

Steps to reproduce:

I did nothing. Some pages have stopped working.

Actual results:

Running Windows 10 on HP laptop Firefox V 129.0.1
Because I am colorblind I use my own custom colors with black for text and links, white for visited links. And a color background my wife finds unreadable.
Always use private browsing mode is OFF. The "remember..." options are on and clear browsing history is off. Increasingly, web pages are not tracking my visited links. Most recently, the https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews stopped marking the links I visited with white text. I tried exiting and restarting, turning the check boxes off and on again, as well as using google to see if others have seen this issue..

Expected results:

Visited links should turn white againn. They are not.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Mike, thanks for this report. If you have time, we'd love some more info to help us track down this issue:

Do you use a high contrast mode in your OS system settings?
Do you have a firefox theme enabled? (you can check in about:addons > themes)
If you go to about:preferences > Manage Colors, do you have the dropdown in that dialog set to "Always", "Never" or "Only with High Contrast themes"? Do you have the "Use system colors" checkbox checked?

Are you noticing this issue on any other sites, if so, which ones?

If you paste this into your URL bar, do the colours look as you'd expect?
data:text/html,<a href="">I am an unvisited link</a><br><a href="https://google.com">I am a visited link</a>

Thanks for your help :)

@ triage, this is likely a layout/preference sheet issue if it is unrelated to theme. Pending more info, feel free to retriage there

What platform are you using? (Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.) Windows 10 on an HP laptop
Do you use a high contrast mode in your OS system settings? Yes
Do you have a firefox theme enabled? (you can check in about:addons > themes) No
If you go to about:preferences > Manage Colors, do you have the dropdown in
that dialog set to "Always", "Never" or "Only with High Contrast themes"? Do
you have the "Use system colors" checkbox checked? Always for my own color selectios. Use system colors not checked.

Are you noticing this issue on any other sites, if so, which ones?
I dont use a lot of web sites, but I have seen this same issue on
https://patriotpost.us/opinion

YES. the data:text/html,<a href="">I am an unvisited link</a><br><a
href="https://google.com">I am a visited link</a> URL works

After I filed my "bug" report, I did some research and while all the web help pages I found for this issue were old and
referenced things I had already checked (private browsing, clean up after exit, exit) I did find one other newer page
that, if I read it correctly indicated that some people consider the ability to track visited web pages a security bug.
And that some web pages are forcing users to lose track of the pages they visited. If true, I guess there is just no
fix unless firefox can override that page setting. Frankly, I don't really care if someone got onto my computer and
figured out what movie revies I read or what news I read. There are bigger things to worry about than that.

I should note that my actual history (from menu bar) is still intact.

Thanks again.

Ok, so those pages have color: inherit on their links, which now works in forced-colors mode. So for patriotpost.us this stopped working as you intended in bug 1882709. See bug 1892053 comment 5 for a user-style that would work to restore that behavior...
