User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:130.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/130.0

Steps to reproduce:

When clicking on a mailto: on web page and composing a new message, the email address in the window is displayed "truncated" or shortened/abbreviated, with some parts of it replaced by "...". This happens randomly. And I'm 99% sure this also happens randomly when copy-pasting an address in the address field. It's just a cosmetic thing on the display, the actual address is good and the email goes out fine.
Tried troubleshoot mode and it didn't happen, and after exiting t.s. mode and returning to nomal, it didn't happen either.
According to a quick reddit askaround, this is not a feature but a bug and others may have seen it as well, not just me.
I report it as a defect, but if it's an intentional feature somehow, then treat it as an enhancement request and please include a setting to turn this OFF.
(I can even imagine this could be a security problem and used for phising and "hiding" the true full address from the user?)

Actual results:

(actual address shown on the image from the html code: "mailto:info@aranykulcs.hu")

If you type into the address field on compose new message, say, example@domain.tld, and then press TAB, it changes to "example@...ain.tld". But only once. If you delete it and type in it again, then it's not changing after TAB. until TB is completely closed and restarted.
IF you type it in and then press enter, it doesn't change either.

I want to add that this happens even without clicking mailto links. It is not related to that. I just did a Reply All to a normal email and it did it for me. Does it all the time -- regardless of the fact that there is plenty of space on the To or CC line for the full email address.

What is odd is that I can sit on the same email that I just replied to and had this happen -- and reply to it exactly the same way again and it WON'T do it. It's almost random.

Yep. It just happened (again) for me when forwarding a message. And I'm happy to inform you, that I can reproduce the issue:

  • Close TB
  • Start TB
  • Select an E-mail from Inbox and Click on "Forward" ("Reply" does NOT work)
  • Type a random, well-formatted, sufficiently long address that is NOT part of the address book, so it is NOT auto-completed e.g. some_random_text@foo_bar_zar.com
  • After typing the address do NOT hit enter, but instead click with the mouse into the main mail compose field
  • The address is now abbreviated to some_random_tex...oo_bar_zar.com
  • Closing the message window and doing it again without TB restart, no address abbreviation is visible

Running TB 128.5.0esr (64-bit) on Debian 12 Bookworm.
Thanks, Tycho

This has just been fixed in bug 1855276 (for Daily and Beta 135, not yet in ESR 128).
