Steps to reproduce:

On latest MacOS. A colleague was able to reproduce. We do also both have the Bitwarden extension installed.

• Install Firefox
• Create two profiles
• Open both profiles at the same time ("Launch profile in new browser")
• Open Firefox > About Firefox

Actual results:

See "Firefox is being updated by another instance"

Expected results:

See no updates available or updates available

:bytesized my gut reaction is that this is expected behavior, but could you confirm?

This is currently expected. Bug 1907127 should make it so that one of the instances will show updates available to be downloaded. It will probably never be possible to update from every instance. It just doesn't make sense for every instance to update independently of one another and it's probably not worth the lift to make it possible for one instance to control the update process in another instance.
