User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:131.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/131.0
Steps to reproduce:
I have this URL as a pinned tab in Firefox: https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/
Recently, every time I open Firefox that tab has that message at the top, consuming space.
Actual results:
I have tried clicking "Set as default" and clicking "Not now" and clicking the close (X) button, but next time I restart Firefox, I'll still get the message.
Expected results:
Set as default should perform the set, and stop asking. But it's not working. Note: In the Firefox settings for Applications, for Content Type "mailto", I did have 2 entries for "Use outlook.live.com" (https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/deeplink/compose?mailtouri=%s and https://outlook.live.com/mail/deeplink/compose?mailtouri=%s). I removed the first one, but the issue persists.

When I removed the 2nd and final "Use outlook.live.com" entry and set it to "Always ask", then closed and reopened, it did prompt again. This time, when I clicked "Set as default", it created an entry for https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/deeplink/compose?mailtouri=%s (the one I had removed earlier as a test). And now when I close and reopen, it no-longer prompts.
So I guess the real problem was that the other entry was incorrect.
Not sure if this is a bug or not, anymore.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I can't seem to be able to reproduce this issue on Nightly 133.0a1 and Firefox 131.0.3 while using macOS 10.13 and Windows 10 x64. My guess is that somehow that there were two links created at the same time and that is why everything broke.
Considering this and comment 3 I will mark this bug as REZOLVED WORKSFORME. Feel free to reopen it if the issus persists.

We shipped an intervention in bug 1889326 to prevent Outlook from nagging like this, as for complicated reasons the same prompt does not open on Chrome/Edge and they are not testing/adjusting for this.
Dennis, any idea if/why this might have stopped working?

I have pinned tabs for both Outlook Web and Gmail. Depending on which one I have set as default, the other tab will show this prompt on startup. I have tried clearing the two entries in settings and re-adding them by clicking Set as default on each one in turn, but it made no difference. I would love for the Not now button to be renamed No and to permanently dismiss the prompt.
As a workaround for now, is there a way to disable the prompt, for example through about:config?

I'm a bit confused here. I tested this with all the accounts I have access to, and it works for me. I see the mailto prompt the first time, I then see the local storage key mailProtocolHandlerAlreadyOffered
being set, and I never see the prompt after that.
But I also still see some report volume on social media, so this does not feel like something that fixed itself. Tom, can you give this a try?
