User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; it-IT; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021207 Phoenix/0.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; it-IT; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021207 Phoenix/0.5 when you follow links for the news (in tgcom.it for examples how yet reported in #150634)the browser cannot opens its in detail because for visualizing its it use strictly IE java. ALL the sites of the Mediaset Family (mediaset is the italian TV corporation founded by Berlusconi) uses this technology and a lot of pages of those sites are buggy: www.mediasetonline.it www.jumpy.it www.tgcom.it www.tgfin.it (this is the less bad one) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.www.tgcom.it 2.select a news link... it open a page with some ugly rows on the left 3.select one of those rows(news) Actual Results: NO CONTENTS APPEARS Expected Results: Visualize a scrolling news text in the center of the page instead of empty background THIS IS A VERY VERY VERY INPORTANT SITE IN ITALY
What do you expect Mozilla to do? Support all those IE Java extensions? Am I the only one who thinks this bug is invalid?
this is technology evangelism, so this bug is perfectly valid. this bug is for us to find a solution, and send it back to them so that mozilla works with those sites. not confirming because I'm too lazy to check for the error right now :)
But you don't understood the problem entirely. In Italy those are very very importants sites! There are many idiots claiming to visits them, so in Italy this is a dramatically blocker problem for Mozilla and I am a promoter of the use of mozilla in Italy, (also France and soon [I hope] hungary) because I do consultings for Internet Cafés... with me a very lot of people uses mozilla(galeon in reality) but the two major blocking stuffs are Berlusconi's sites, French TF1 television sites movie section and the MSN-(idiot)chat that for running need mediumlow security in IE, so the access to your registry for checking your affaires in your disk and I think some kind of ridiculous ActiveX for running few interactive widgets in the chat-page (if someone could realize a windows system/registry emulator for running MSN(idiot)chat maybe with a wine activex emulator [in future of course])
After briefly visiting each site, my impression is as follows: -The websites include advertisements based on Flash -These advertisements obscure page content -The advertisements cannot be ‘closed’ There are no Java Applets, to my knowledge, on the page. This problem also occurs with other various sites around the Internet (e.g. www.pokemon.com), so it could become a major evangelist effort.
Mozilla 1.4a, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401, Windows XP Pro build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920 www.mediasetonline.it contains a flash ad that appears on the top left of the window, but it can be closed by clicking "CHIUDI" or waiting ~8 seconds for it to close itself. http://www.tgcom.it has the same flash ad crap, but w/ the same options; click "CHIUDI" or wait ~8 seconds for it to close itself. Additionally, this site uses flash for the layout of the main content which displays some of the text incorrectly. As for the behavior in the original report, it is a flash design problem, not a mozilla problem. All of the flash-based links (which appear too low, vertically) do not result in anything for me. Clicking on other links such as: http://www.tgcom.it/Sport/ - results in a flash ad that cannot be closed http://www.tgcom.it/Gossip/ - results in bad rendering of DIVs Those are all I checked. It appears there are no Java issues, but there are *severe* envangelism issues. ;) Someone should change the summary to reflect the real problems...also, see what it is about the DIVs that should be changed (assuming it's not a mozilla bug)
please check if this problem still exists, because we want to get rid of unconfirmed bugs. Many bugs in here are strill unconfirmed, because eigher nobody sees the problem or nobody is able to get to the page because of a required login. (sorry for the spam)
Replying to Comment 6 This bug is still present. It is wholly unrelated to Mozilla, as far as I can see. This may still be a problem, but if so, it will have to be handed off to Evangelism. It may be a problem in the implementation of the Shockwave plugin, as no such problem exists on Internet Explorer (ActiveX).
eh, yes...

Surely a Tech Evangelism "bug" can't be a blocker...
I know of all the problems that the sites listed in this bug showed before with Mozilla and Firefox. Now the sites are redesigned though! I tried all of them and they work very well... I would suggest it's time to close this bug.
