The scope of this bug is to audit the Messaging System & Onboarding Telemetry documentation in the source doc, update it to reflect the current state, and revise cross-links. Additionally, we can consider adding links to experiment-level telemetry on experimenter.info from this page.

Include documention on how to add a ping type (needs both Fx code change and Opmon dashboard yaml change).

We wouldn't actually block the release on this; dropping to P2.

In Slack, Meg proposed some more detailed steps. One thing to do here is compare them to the similar steps in the in-tree documentation, and update those parts of the docs as appropriate. She wrote:

In about:config, set the following prefs (if the pref does not already exist, type the name in the search, select if it's a boolean or a number, and hit the plus sign):

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.telemetry to true

logging.config.timestamp to true

logging.config.sync to true

logging.fog_control::* to 5

logging.fog::* to 5

logging.glean::* to 5

logging.glean_core::* to 5

logging.config.clear_on_startup to false 

Then, go to about:glean. Under the About Testing header and follow steps 1-5 (checking the checkbox under #3).
