Mozilla mail has to have been running for a while (a few hours), for this behavior to manifest. Mark a message as junk. Wait a minute. At some point, Mozilla refreshes the list of messages, and the trash-can icon next to the message disappears. Reselecting the message and hitting the "junk" button will similarly only last until the browser refreshes the list. Quit Mozilla. Restart Mozilla. The message will now be marked as junk. Also, I selected the "move junk to a folder" option, but the message, once selected as junk, isn't moved to the junk folder. For what it's worth, my folders are on a U.W. IMAP server. This appears to be a duplicate of bug 181380.
Actually, I take back the above comment. This bug could be related to, but is different from bug 181380.
It seems the junk flag is not stored with the message, at least not with an IMAP folder. I can toggle the junk flag on, leave and return to the folder and for some messages, the flag will be off again.
IMAP should be in summary.
Summary: mark message as junk, wait a while, junk flag turns off by itself → IMAP: mark message as junk, wait a while, junk flag turns off by itself
I've seen this happen on my Mandrake 9.1 box, using Moz 1.3.1. We use an IMAP mail server running on AIX 5.1. I don't see the flags turn off anymore because I move the messages I've flagged as junk to my Junk folder manually.
I think I fixed this - do you see it in 1.5rc1 or 2?

Dan Wallach (or others experiencing this bug) -- has this symptom reoccurred with a build since 1.5RC1 (per comment 6)?
I don't see the bug any more.
thx, marking fixed
