User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021216 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021216 This is not bug #90337 and is unrelated to that bug. This is neither bugs #53171 nor #163436. However both seem semantically close in the problem domain. Observed in Mozillas 1.2.1, 1.1.0, and 1.0.2 (on equivalent hardware and OS). Internet keywords is disabled. Autocomplete typed URLs is enabled. Show list and show search engine are the only enabled advanced autocomplete options. Steps: 1) Type search terms, e.g. "foo bar baz", into URL bar. 2) Hit <return> or <enter>. 3) Dismiss invalid URL alert. 4) Highlight "URL" and press <down-arrow> until Search Google for "foo bar baz" is highlighted and press <return> or <enter>. 5) Dismiss invalid URL alert. One may repeat steps 4 and 5 until bored. Workaround 1: 4) Highlight "URL". Type <End> <spacebar> and then press <down-arrow> until Search Google for "foo bar baz" is highlighted and press <return> or <enter>. 5) Enjoy the set of results returned by the search engine. Workaround 2: 4) Highlight "URL". Type <End> <down-arrow> (only once). 5) Use the mouse to select Search Google for "foo bar baz" 6) Enjoy the set of results returned by the search engine. Redescription in higher level primitives: <Enter>ing a set of search terms seems to mark the contents of the URL bar as "a URL", disallowing the *keyboard* selection of searching a search engine for the terms. Modifying the set of search terms (even vacuously) permits the keyboard selection of searching via a search engine. Not modifying the search terms permits search engine selection by mouse, but not by keyboard. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Duplicated from Details section: 1) Type search terms, e.g. "foo bar baz", into URL bar. 2) Hit <return> or <enter>. 3) Dismiss invalid URL alert. 4) Highlight "URL" and press <down-arrow> until Search Google for "foo bar baz" is highlighted and press <return> or <enter>. Actual Results: Duplicated from Details section: 5) Dismiss invalid URL alert. Expected Results: Duplicated from Details section: 5) Enjoy the set of results returned by the search engine.
