User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:135.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/135.0
Steps to reproduce:
Watch an HDR video, such as this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xod2xiLA9CM
The video pane showing the HDR content seems to have the brightness or white levels maxed out. It's incredibly bright, almost as if it's overriding system brightness settings, although I don't think that's what is happening. Only the video pane is brightened. The rest of the screen remains at the expected system brightness level.
If you watch the same HDR video in Chrome, the brightness matches the system brightness level as expected.
Actual results:
The video pane showing the HDR content seems to have the brightness or white levels maxed out. It's incredibly bright, almost as if it's overriding system brightness settings, although I don't think that's what is happening. Only the video pane is brightened. The rest of the screen remains at the expected system brightness level.
Expected results:
The brightness level of the video pane should not change. If you watch the same HDR video in Chrome, the brightness matches the system brightness level as expected.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Audio/Video' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I just attached it. Interestingly, when I few the example video on my Mac Mini M4 Pro, the video doesn't show in HDR, it's simply HD. It only shows as HDR when watching it from two different Macbook Pro laptops. I'm not sure why that would be the case. All three are running the same version of Firefox.

After thinking about it for more than a few seconds, it's obvious why it only shows as HDR on the Macbook Pros. They have XDR displays, whereas the Mac Mini is connected to a non-Apple monitor and has HDR disabled because it makes the colors look wonky. The browser must not offer the HDR version of the video because HDR is disabled.

Kelsey, since Bug 1721708 is closed, should this block Bug 1539685?
