On my german Win2k some of the Windows-Favories where not shown the right way.
They - since latest Trunk - show cryptic characters for special characters like
umlauts (הצסבים etc.) and the link for that ones do not work.
Does somebody played in the Code? ;-)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
Popups an info message: Alert, cannot be found.

Expected Results:
Popups an info message: Alert, cannot be found.

This happens only for Favorites which contain international characters.
In the 1.3 tree it keeps on working (again) in the new 1.4 it continues broken. :(

Two questions:
1. What do the "cryptic characters" look like? Copy-and-paste them in or attach
a screen shot.
2. How do the actual and expected behavior differ? If they are identical, there
is no bug!
Ideally, both questions will have the same answer. ;)

... and this way they work like a normal bookmark. :)
This is like it is in Mozilla 1.2 and 1.3
Can you give some steps to reproduce? What web page should I bookmark in IE and
import into Mozilla to see the described actual results?
Well, it's not the Import of Favorites to Bookmarks - it's the "include
Favorites" from IE into Bookmarks.

I use the german Win2k SP3 with IE6 SP1.
Go to "Manage Bookmarks".
1. Notice you can only have one of this "links" in your Mozilla-Bookmarks.
2. Select a folder of your choice.
3. Select "File" > "New" > "Bookmark".
4. Type the Name for the Bookmark(-Folder) like you desire.
5. Type in the direct URL (or any Favorites subfolder) to your own local
Favorites folder like:
    file:///C|/Dokumente%20und%20Einstellungen/joe/Favoriten/Links
(You should replace the colon with a pipe! - If you already have such a "link"
it will now be renamed)
6. Voila! Now you Should have access to the IE Favorites [under Moz1.2 or 1.3]

Now in the future if you manipulate any of the IE Favorites you should restart
Mozilla to get access to those changes. AND you can create Favorites with
Mozilla by dragging the URL from the Location Bar to the Favorites (through the
Start-Menu).

Let's make an example:
Take perhaps http://www.golem.de/ (which has an umlaut "ü" in the title).
1. Drag the URL from the Mozilla Location Bar to "Start" > "Favorites" >
"WhatsoeverFolder".
2. Relaunch Mozilla.
3. Open Mozilla "Manage Bookmarks"
4a. Moz 1.2/1.3: You should now see in the selected Favorites-Folder the link
"Golem.de - IT-News für Profis" and the correct URL.
4b. Moz pre1.4: You will see in that Favorites-Folder a link like in the
attached images "Golem.de - IT-New für Profis" and the URL is missing in the
line. So the Link can't work. :/ BTW: <title>Golem.de - IT-News f&uuml;r
Profis</title>

Anyway I have also some Favorites whithout Umlaut like http://www.aldi.de which
also causes the same effect and this page has this title-tag:
<title>ALDI&nbsp;International</title>
I can reproduce on Windows 98 SE with IE 5.5 using Mozilla trunk build
2003030508. I had to create the bookmark in steps 3-5 in a folder called
"Links". The umlaut appeared as "ü" instead of "ü", and I got an Alert when I
tried to access the bookmark. A workaround is to export the bookmarks from IE
and import them into Mozilla each time you update the IE Favorites.

Summary: Import of Windows Favorites → Linked IE Favorites with non-ASCII characters display incorrectly & can't be used
Bug 194067 looks very similar, but is a problem with drag-and-drop instead of
linked bookmarks.
In Addition: If I change the name of an existing Favorite like "Dänisches
Bettenlager Internet Shop" into "Daenisches Bettenlager Internet Shop" and
restart Mozilla 1.4a (build 2003031008) the link works.

I think this is a fault in the character translation or en-/decoding. And why
does this work in the actual 1.2x and 1.3x build and since some weeks it's
broken in 1.4 ??

BTW: the drag'n'drop with umlauts or non-ASCII characters from IE Favorites to
Mozilla - like described in bug 194067 - works für me very fine.
