when Mozilla Mail crashes the messages since last startup of Mozilla or going
offline/online are donwloaded again as new and distributed by filters creating
duplicates in each filter target folder
there is no easy way to prevent it except for clicking very often File/Work
Offline ...
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. setup filters, connect to IMAP server (tested with IMAP)
2. kill Mozilla
3. reconnect and observe duplicated messages propagated to your folders
Actual Results:
duplicated messages are created when distributing messages since last crash or
since last succesful offline/online switching
Expected Results:
Mozilla should after downloading messages mark them donwloaded and after crash
they should not be downloaded second time
when message is filtered and duplicated it should be possible to configure
filter not to store duplicated messages (the same Message ID and content)
as workaround i am clicking lot Offline/Online to keep in sync IMAP server and
Mozilla MAil but it is not very good solution

there are some proposals to add useful functionality to prevent duplicated
messages and allow on-demand removal of duplicates but they do not address
problem with IMAP i have when Mozilla crashes. this problem is not new and was
already reported in bug 9413 comment 25
it would be great if proposed as proposed in bug 9413 comment 26 a generic
mechanims to prevent this from happening was added that is independent from mail
server type. this could be made part of Duplicate Management function as
mentioned in bug 9413 comment 28 and i am sure would make amny people happy :-)
