Hello,
I am using digital certificates to communicate with some of my email partners
using encrypted emails. While doing this, I figured out some nice features that
I am missing in Mozilla Mail to leverage and encourage the use of encryption:
1) in the mail accounts security settings, you can either enable encryption for
all emails or disable it and chosse to encrypt emails manually. I would love a
third option such as "automatically encrypt mail if certificates for all mail
receipients are available". Helpful would be an additional signal in the new
message windows if this option would then encrypt the mail.
2) When writing a new email, while filling in the recipients mail address I
would love to see if there is a certificate/public key for this address
available or not (esp. interesting with the first feature request).
3) if the above feature 2) shows "no certificate available" for an email address
I would love to have a feature to search for certificates for mail address in
given directories , VeriSign CA or others (they all support LDAP searches). I.e.
if there is no local stored certificate available, instead of 2) show an "search
for certs" icon)´.
This is my whishlist so far (along with bug 191111), I am hoping that some of
them come true one day.
Thanks for all the great work so far!
Tobias

Hope you don't consider me to be whining, but i'm marking this one INVALID.
Please file ONE report per request. After doing so, post the new bug numbers
here and possible this bug is reopened and turned into a tracking bug for all
requested features, using the new bug numbers as dependencies.
There are other requests out there as well [such as a visual identifier in
Address Book for people from which you have received a key.]

okay, I don't know how to create the direct links to bugs, but the above request
is now splitted in three bugs
1) bug 195940
2) bug 195941
3) bug 195943
BTW, another bug from me concerning certificates: bug 175598
I haven't found the bug "such as a visual identifier in Address Book for people
from which you have received a key."

Kai,
This meta and its blockers have not been updated in decades. (unlike most of https://mzl.la/4aBSoLi )
So is it still useful to have this meta bug? (If it is, then we should have someone update it)
