Just noticed that this function doesn't try to draw unknown glyphs.  Even though
I  doubt that we'll run into ASCII fonts that are missing glyphs, might as well
make sure that we draw the unknown glyphs if we need to.
We might want this feature for C0 characters.
gfx/src/gtk/ has been removed on trunk.
Please file a new bug if it's still relevant for Thebes.
