Affected Version:
Nightly - 140.0a1/20250514211700
Description:
In a Taskbar Tabs window, right clicking on the toolbar and turning on “Vertical Tabs”, right clicking again and turning off “Vertical Tabs”, right clicking again and turning on “Vertical Tabs” once more will show the vertical tab strip on the left. Clicking the “+” to create a new tab will open the new tab in the main Firefox instance though and not in the Taskbar Tabs window.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open https://www.wikipedia.org/ in a Taskbar Tabs window
- Right click the toolbar and enable vertical tabs
- Notice that initially the tab strip is not displayed
- Right click the toolbar and disable vertical tabs
- The vertical sidebar from when vertical tabs are disabled will be displayed
- Right click the toolbar and enable vertical tabs once more
- Notice the vertical tab strip appears
- Click on the “+” to create a new tab
- Notice that the new tab is created in the main Firefox instance
Actual results:
The vertical tab strip appears in the Taskbar Tabs window.
Expected results:
The vertical tab strip should be disabled in the Taskbar Tabs window OR the option to turn on vertical tabs should be removed from the toolbar context menu inside a Taskbar Tabs window.

This should be resolved by removing the context menu entirely, á là bug 1959770.
