Steps to reproduce:

1. On macOS: go in the top main menu: Thunderbird/About Thunderbird
2. You see par example 'Update to 139.0.2' and you click the button.
3. Message appears: Update failed, download the latest version here.
   No difference between different macOS' and Windows 10, they behave the same way. This bug is years old. In other words, earlier version of TB and macOS are also affected.

Actual results:

Updating Thunderbird under macOS 13, 14, 15 is impossible (since years) except via download by browser. Windows 10 (@work) also affected.

Expected results:

Updating Thunderbird internally is expected to work as it did for many, many years.
