User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/18.5 Safari/605.1.15

Steps to reproduce:

Tried to de-select dark mode enable, tried to use the toggle, tried everything I could think of

Actual results:

The messages remain in dark mode, nothing I do makes that changed to light background for message.

Expected results:

Messages should have white background as they did before this upgrade.

my computer info is wrong I can't see where to change it. Using MacPro M2Ultra Computer with newest OS Sequoia 15.5

Stuart, do you have any add-ons installed? Does the issue resolve in Help->Troubleshoot mode?

no, tried troubleshot mode,
tried just disabling addd ons (I don't really have any anyway except dropbox)
nothing fixes this.

This works correctly for me on mac. Can you post a screen shot of what your seeing? does restarting thunderbird have any effect? Does this happen on all emails or just a subset?

restarting has no effect, it happens on all emails in all accounts no matter what. the toggle does nothing.

I don't see a button to attach an image

If you scroll up where all the bug info is you should see an attachments section and a button to add an attachment.

at the top is o only browse, advanced search, new bug, my dashboard and more tools, more tools has my reports and my requests, there is no upload that I can see.

OK I found the attach thing, hidden inside the edit bug, scroll down and find it at the bottom.

Thank you those provided the missing key here which is your in high contrast mode for your system. When high contrast mode is enabled we defer color choices to the given systems colors. which are also what we are doing in dark reader when turned on. This makes the toggle essentially do nothing when in high contrast.

I am thinking we should remove this toggle when in high contrst mode the same as we do if your in light.

NO, I want the toggle to work or a preference to have light messages with everything else dark. Just the way it used to be. Please don't take the easy way out, please enable this, either as a toggle or as a preference.

I do have increased contrast because on big (34") monitor it has these very nice window outlines, that are very difficult to see any other way. otherwise it really doesn't do much, but that is terrific. Please don't force me to choose between that and seeing my messages more correctly since most people write messages black ink on white background. So it's best to read them that way. I would really like that so that both composing and reading the message pane is white, all the rest as is.

I completely understand about the usefullness of high contrast i typically use it as well. unfourtanitly the way high contrast works is the colors are provided by the operating system we do not control the colors other wise the toggle would work. It comes to us as you having chosen to force this color pallet on us so we must use it. This is throughout the application and not specific to any given area. By contrast (no pun intended) when the OS sends us the information that you want dark mode this is a theme, we still choose the colors and color pallet, but with the understanding you have said you want dark color pallet.

But it worked great in the last version…….

The last version did not even have the option for a darkmode reader, and just did not respect any system setting for theme or contrast in the message reader. Not respecting the users settings was wrong.

The best way i think to solve this would be with either custom theme, or custom userChrome.css (which we do not offer support in using but will work).
