User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:142.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/142.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Install uBlock extension with default filters, or AdGuard extension with default filters
- Go to https://www.gismeteo.ru
- Click on the search icon in the top right corner
- Press on the input field
Actual results:
Along with the keyboard, large blank space between the keyboard and the address bar (configured to be on the bottom) appears, which covers the majority of the website.
Reproducible on Firefox Android 142.0, 143.0b8, and Nightly 144a1, with uBlock + EasyList.
Expected results:
Only keyboard appears, without any additional blank space.
Web-bugs report of the same issue, with different website (Discourse forum engine)
https://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/173785
I remember the bug on Discourse (above comment), without any extensions.
(In reply to jesus2099 from comment #2)
I reproduce the bug on Discourse (above comment), without any extensions.
As I pointed out with video capture in the other bug tracker*, there is also another blank padding zone (smaller but permanent), added at the top of Firefox, when visiting certain websites, like Discourse, with keyboard not floating.
I think I do this this small permanent padding in this ticket captures, as well.
Once it’s triggered and once it appears, it remains there for all Firefox, all websites, even without keyboard or with keyboard floating.
Only killing Firefox triggers it.
It seems to match the height of the selfie camera and notification zone.
Sorry for the typos:
I think I do see this small permanent padding in this ticket captures, as well.
Only killing Firefox removes it.
A little summary of the tested versions we saw:
- Keyboard (Gboard, SwiftKey, etc.) doesn't matter
- Firefox Extensions don't matter
- Firefox for Android before version 142: No bug
- Firefox for Android versions 142 and 142.0.2 same behaviour
- Real Android or emulator same behaviour
- Phone or tablet apparently same behaviour

I am experiencing the same issue in Firefox for Android 143.
When the keyboard opens, a large blank space appears between the keyboard and the content area.
As a result, I can only see about one line of text while typing, which makes writing very frustrating.
Device: Huawei P40 Lite
Android version: 10
Firefox version: 143
Screenshot attached.

Still happens for me too on Firefox 143.0 for Android 9, on the same websites as 142.
So it’s still the same, Android 9 and 10 with Firefox 142+.
Majority of sites are OK:
https://MusicBrainz.org
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org
https://wiki.mozilla.org
https://wikipedia.fr
https://github.com
But a certain amount of the sites I use are bugged (I have to switch to floating keyboard, but a permanent top padding remains):
https://jp.mercari.com
https://community.metabrainz.org (Discourse)
https://meta.discourse.org
And (from other reporters), also KO:
https://gismeteo.ru (be patient, it lags a lot before the keyboard appears)

Thank you for all the details and the extensive testing!
I cannot reproduce myself to know for sure but I think this issue should be fixed in the latest Nightly after the patches from bug 1976746 and bug 1977270 were reverted. If someone can confirm this then we can look into bringing this revert in beta and release sooner.

It indeed seems to be fixed in nightly at the first glance. Thanks!

I don’t know how to try Nightly, but I have tried Firefox Beta 144.0b6 (Build #2016116783), bf70f0d0923c45256a5a63d78af243765f3bc9f2.
It is not fixed on Beta.

Thank you for checking, and all of the informations provided in this ticket!
Indeed our expected fix is not yet in beta but asked for it to be included in the next dot release of both the beta and release applications.
