The ‘about Thunderbird’ screen that pops up shows it uses the release channel, but identifies as Thunderbird Beta. Version is 145 and up to date, and since Beta is already on 146, it must really be Release.

Summary: In the Thunderbird release version, the about screen identifies as Beta version (at least in nl locale) → Thunderbird release version about screen identifies as Beta version (at least in nl locale)

Confirmed. I was able to recreate this by switching to the Nederlands language pack. 146 releases next Tuesday. Let's retry there and see if the issue still exists.

I don't see this, see screnshot. windows 11 64 bit, installed nl version from thunderbird.net

Hello!
I have tried to reproduce this issue and manage to reproduce part of this issue.
I had tried on Win 11 and macOS 15.7.1.
I installed TB 145.0 en-US build and update it to 146.0, in About Thunderbird the correct channel informations were displayed.
Also tried TB 143.0 nl build and update it to 145.0 and ultimately 146.0 in About Thunderbird the correct channel informations were displayed.
I managed to reproduce it only when I installed TB 145.0 en-US build switched to the Netherlands language pack in TB, Apply and Restart. When TB was launched I clicked on About Thunderbird and TB identified as TB beta.
The issues could not be reproduced when updating to a new version if the language pack wasn’t changed within Thunderbird.

Ramona, it looks like this is still happening in 146.0 for the nl language pack. Would you be able to check and see what version this started occurring?

Hello Corey!

I have tested this and managed to find the build where this behaviour started to occur.
It seems it’s started with TB 145.0(20251106212021).

I have checked on TB 142.0, 143.0, 144.0 and the problem did not reproduce.

Here are the scenarios that I have tried:

  1. Installed TB en-US and update from 144.0 ->145.0 ->146.0 in the About Thunderbird the correct information were displayed so the problem described in the bug report was not reproduced.

  2. Installed TB NL build and update from 144.0 ->145.0 -> 146.0 in the About Thunderbird the correct information were displayed so the problem described in the bug report was not reproduced .

  3. Installed TB en-US, went to General settings -> Language & Fonts and downloaded Nederlands language pack, Apply and Restart, after restart I clicked on About Thunderbird and TB identified as TB beta.

I also installed a fresh en-US TB 146.0 changed the language pack to Nederlands, after restart I clicked on About Thunderbird and TB identified as TB beta, so the problem doesn’t necessarily occur when TB is updated to a newer version it’s more like happening when the language pack is changed within TB to nederlands language pack ..

I have also checked for other languages packs( it, Deutsch, es, Francis, polski) and it doesn’t reproduce.

Is this the dutch langpack only or does other locales have the same issue?

It appears the language pack for 146.0 is not available on ATN. However the language pack for 146.0b3 is available, and that's what is getting installed.

Looking at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/tb-langpack-nl/versions/, I see 20251201 there (146.0b3) but I don't see the 20251203 (146.0).

John, do you have an ideas on what could be going wrong? Are there any ATN logs that might show some hints?

Not really, the infrastructure team might know more. My knowledge about the internals of ATN are very limited.

Mel, do you happen to have any ATN logs or anything that might show some hints as to why this language pack wasn't updated?

I looked into this and I could not find a definite answer. I've opened up a ticket on addons-server for further investigation: github.com/thunderbird/addons-server/issues/359

Hopefully we'll have capacity to look into it in the new year!

This issues is reproducible also on TB 148.0(20260219215726), using the steps from comment 5 point 3.

The latest language pack for TB 148 (Version 148.0.20260219.215726) available on https://addons.thunderbird.net/addon/tb-langpack-nl/versions/ (3rd from the top currently) is not Beta-branded (you can download and unpack it, the string is in /chrome/<locale>/locale/branding/brand.dtd).

If that language pack is installed, I do not see how TB 148 can identify as Beta, except via a caching issue. A clean restart may help. It works fine on my system.

I do see that we do not have proper language packs for 145, 146 and 147. I used a small script to check all language packs, and you will see in the output, that language packs for these major versions only exist as Beta-branded.

https://gist.github.com/jobisoft/7a11996e4b374242d4f65d871957a70e

The script is stitched together by claude AI, I just wanted to get results fast. The proper way to query the available versions is through the addon-server API, but creating a script for parsing the webpage was faster.
