Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:146.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/146.0

Steps to reproduce:

I have mails from "joe schmoe" <somemail@somedomain.com> and try to find them using a quick filter for "schmoe"

Actual results:

Quick filter does not find them with the "Sender" filter because that apparently only looks at the email address, not the whole Sender: field.

Expected results:

It should have found the mails with the "joe schmoe" name

TEsting on Windows 11
Beta 147.0b3
If the sender added their name as the display name shown before email address in the email and it's seen in the Source, then Quick Filter 'Sender' will search on Display name.
eg: from 'Jill Bloggs' <email address>
Search will filter based on 'jill' or 'Bloggs' or 'Jill Bloggs'
I cannot reproduce a problem if display name is part of email.

But if 'Jill Bloggs' was your mother and if in Personal Address Book, you entered a Display name for the contact eg: Mum
But all emails from that person just contain email address or a display name like from 'Jill Bloggs' <email address>
then searching for sender called 'mum' is not going to return any results because 'mum' is your display name for that person.
'mum' is not part of the 'From' display name nor email address in email headers.

When you search for joe schmoe is that Display name you have given to the contact in your address book ?

Require information to see what is actually contained in the email source view.
please locate the "joe schmoe" email and select it.
In Message Header area click on 'More' button and select 'View Source'
It opens in a new window.
Scroll all the way down to the 'From:' field and what do you see ?
Do you see this in the headers:
From: "joe schmoe" <somemail@somedomain.com>
Or do you see something like this:
From: somemail@somedomain.com

What did you find?

Ah, you're right, the From in the source shows something else (the persons real name, vs. the name of the hotel). This is from the address book, which is linked to gmail, where, some time ago I gave the hotel that name (as a company name, since they send mails from a non related address) so I could find it again. Is there any way to include the address book display names in the quick filter?
Thanks for your help!
