Access Connector has a rough UX that repurposed the VPN/ipProtection button and panel. This should be reimplemented with a custom PageAction and panel.

I've reached out to @basti for input on how to best detect whether the IPProtection is active for a given site. Rather than taking the complex route, the plan is to have them extract the logic used by IPProtectionToolbarButton.sys.mjs into a function we can use in our own progress listener. This will allow us to control our UX visibility without reimplementing and diverging the logic.

Filed a bug for them to get this into their next sprint.

Tested on 154.0a1 (Builds ID: 20260708050809) on macOS Tahoe 26.3 and Windows 11 with light/ dark/ high contrast OS themes and Firefox automatic theme and the icon is now inside the search bar on pages authorized by the AccessConnector and have checked the default, hover and active states.
Josh, just a couple differences - could you confirm if these are intended?

  1. when using high contrast I noticed that the AccessConnector entire icon is highlighted on hover, while in the design it is not. intended?
  2. The text about pages loading time is missing when compared to design - is the current copy as intended?

Hi Miruna,

Thank you for testing out the changes! Regarding the differences you noticed:

  1. This is the default behavior for urlbar buttons and not something specific to the Access Connector button (ex: the privacy panel button to the left of the url). This is the intended behavior.
  2. Yes, the copy is as intended, that was removed based on feedback from :fiji.

Thank you, this looks good to me then. Marking it as Verified.
