User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401 If wide layout (the 2nd option in preferences -> mail &newsgroups -> window) is selected for the message pane, hiding it (view -> show/hide), or closing it with the separation bar does not persist after restarting the program. For example, even if, after using the separation bar, nothing of the window is visible (which seems not always to be the case after restarting), highlighting a message marks it as read. This has been the case for several releases now, and it is also the case in the current and some previous versions of Netscape. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.select wide message pane layout in prefs->mail->window (as opposed to high mail folder pane) 2.de-select message pane in view->show/hide 3.close program 4.restart program, look in view->show/hide ... voila. Actual Results: see details Expected Results: the message pane should have remained hidden

See my comment in Bug 63641. I'm inclined to confirm this, but that one weakly has precedence.
I think that this bug is part of what Neil was talking about in bug 63641 comment 7 and bug 63641 comment 10. Actually, Neil's probably seeing bug 77447, about the state of the pane not being remembered when switching to/from Account Central. bug 63641 is not a dup of this bug, but I think that this bug may block that one.
