STR:

  1. Launch latest Nightly 155.0a1 with browser.nova.enabled = true on Ubuntu 26.04.
  2. Open a youtube video.
  3. Right-click in lower-right corner of video several times.

Expected:
Video continues to fully render like before.

Actual:
Video partially renders with blank boxes around context menu which uses a backdrop-filter blur.

Happens with HW-WR and SW-WR.

With Nova disabled, occurs with combination of block-radius on .browserContainer and padding on #browser.

Minimal test case userChrome.css:

:root:not([inFullscreen], [inDOMFullscreen]) #browser {
  padding: 4px;
}

#tabbrowser-tabpanels .browserContainer {
  border-radius: 10px;
}

Regressed by Bug 2023711.

Regressed by Bug 1994121.

Thanks for the report. My team (:sclements or :sthompson) or the Acorn team (:mstriemer or :hjones) can consult on the engineering side as stewards of the design implementation that pads the #browser and puts a rounded corner around the .browserContainer. We can connect with our design partners if there are any tradeoffs that we need to make as a result of this WebRender behavior.

:jswinarton, since you are the author of the regressor, bug 2023711, could you take a look? Also, could you set the severity field?

I am going to look from gfx side. Bug 1994121 seemed to be related to the problem.

Kestrel, can you attach about:support to this bug?

Hmm, I could not reproduce the problem with latest m-c on Ubuntu 26.04. Is there a tip to reproduce the problem?

Flags: needinfo?(ke5trel)

I can reproduce it on multiple systems running Ubuntu 26.04 and 24.04 with clean profiles. It reproduces with layers.acceleration.disabled = true which eliminates most graphics hardware variables. Make sure the window is large enough not to be in compact mode which removes the border-radius or force density with about:preferences#appearance > Window Density > Standard.

I could reproduce the problem only once. Since then, the problem did not happen for me. I am not sure what caused the different.

When the video was paused, it was easier to confirm the problem.
