Steps to reproduce:
Following BUG 2062819 and BUG 2068594: The new icon designed to outline Tab Count is jarringly departed from the previous depiction, it is unattractive and communicates the wrong message.
I kindly request this design decision be revised or outright reverted. This is not a request for enhancement, it is a design defect and presentation regression on one of the most visible, user-facing icons.
The "bowed edges" are the primary factor, as well as the vertical height. The squished horizontal shape and rounded edges imply one is viewing content on horizontal or curved/CRT displays. It formerly presented properly as a very-slightly rectangular square with rounded edges, resembling a modern screen. This is not at all like increasing border-radius to match the rest of Nova. Somehow the decision was made to bend the edges.
No other icons currently in Nightly resemble this design. For instance, the Tab Groups icon presents a grid of even squares resembling the old Tab Count icon, and this did not change unnecessarily over time.
In stark contrast, the former tab icon was unnecessarily redesigned. It no longer has cohesion with any other element of the browser.
As this needs to involve internal teams (UX, Icons, etc), let's please keep all communication publicly visible on this Bugzilla report.

Feels like it is inspired by the icon Chrome on Android uses.
We're not alone thinking this is a negative change though: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1wizlyb/the_most_horrendous_part_about_android_firefox/ .

Huh, it seems Chrome on Android (latest canary) uses a perfectly-square Tabs icon though. Firefox went the opposite way by narrowing and bending their outline, previously a more spacious ratio but not a perfect square.
The icon is meant to represent a "Tab" in the default Grid view, and it formerly did. Now it doesn't even resemble the List view tab shape.

The tab icon SVG was recently updated to fix BUG 2068594.
The horizontal shape and bowed edges are still out-of-place, this should be addressed before Nova on Android is finalized. If it is already finalized, this is prime material for a revision.
