Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030425
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030425
This only happens with 1.4a, 1.4b and 1.4RC1. It does not happen with 1.3.1.
Immediately on clicking the icon, Mozilla crashes and says it is creating an
error log. I cannot find an error log.
Please note, during my search of similar problems, I can attest I do not have
McAfee or Crescendo.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Mozilla, that's all
2.
3.

1.4a was working on my system (WinXP) without problems. 1.4RC1 crashes while
starting. The only thing which pops up is the Microsoft Error Report Dialog.
Same problems with eMail, Adressbook, Composer. Nothing starts anymore.

1.4b works, too.
Strongly suspecting dupe of bug 195600. If i'm wrong please reopen this bug.
The issue: Moz 1.4 is not backwards compatible with 1.3. Simply installing it
over 1.3 will NOT work. Therefore UNINSTALL first before installing 1.4.
Similarly: additions [enigmail, spell check etc.] for Moz 1.3 are not compatible
with Moz 1.4. These are not uninstalled through the Moz uninstall as these
didn't install it. UNINSTALL these by manually clearing out the Moz folder
[except plug-ins. Don't worry, this won't touch your data]
After doing this, install Moz 1.4
Please read the "release notes", "installation notes" and search for existing
bugs before filing a new bug.

Installing 1.4b over 1.4RC1 does not work anymore, neither. I probably have to
delete the entire directory first and than install 1.4b again.

What Patrick is writing here is at least not correct for my system. Installing
1.4b over 1.3 worked fine. Installing 1.4RC1 over 1.4b does not work anymore.
Strange.
But i guess the dupe still stands if installation into a fully CLEAN directory
works. Because that's what the installation notes tell you to do to make Mozilla
work.
Can you confirm that installing into a fully clean directory works as intended?

Installing in a new empty directory seem to work.

Thanks for the notes. I have confirmed my problem is resolved by clearing out
the Mozilla component directory. I did indeed have the spell checker installed.
