This feature would be similar to Operas "Continue from last time", or an
automatic "edit / preferences / navigator / use current group" when exiting the
window.
This request can be split into two features:
1: adding tabs and closing mozilla does not automatically save those new tabs to
your home page tab group (you have to do this manuale by going to edit /
preferences / navigator and click "use current group")
2: when the url of any tab changes, the url of that tab isn't saved on exit.
Example: you are ploughing through the archive of userfriendly.org because you
are cathing up with the comic. You have read all comics of january 2003 and have
just read the Jan 31, 2003 comic. When you close mozilla, the _current_ url of
the tab is not saved, so next time you start mozilla, the tab is back to its
"home page", probably www.userfriendly.org, while you wanted it to be
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20030131&mode=classic
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
new tabs are not automatically saved:
1. Open more than 1 tab in a window, any URLs are OK
2. go to edit / preferences / navigator and click "use current group"
3. close mozilla and open again, the tabs are all back
4. now, add a newe tab, any URL is ok
5. close mozilla and open again
6. that tab you added is not back
urls are not automatically saved / no :
1. open a window (one tab is enough)
2. go to the first userfriendly comic of this year:
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20030101&mode=classic
3. Set this as your home page, or --if you have more than one tab-- as your home
page group
4. close and open mozilla, all tabs are back, nothing wrong here
5. In the userfriendly tab, click a few times on Next. You end on jan 7th (url=
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20030107&mode=classic)
6. close and open mozilla.
7. you see the userfriendly tab is back to the jan 1th comic, not the jan 7th.
-> now, if mozilla would have an "auto save current group on exit" or ( "auto
save updated URLs of tabs on exit" and "auto save tab group on exit") your
userfriendly tab woul be pointing tot the jan 7th comic, and you can continue
your browsing session where you left it last time.
Actual Results:
Mozilla did not save changed URL's of tabs, nor dit it save added or deleted
tabs from that group
Expected Results:
it should have saved changed URL's of tabs and save added or deleted tabs to the
"current home page group"
I woul even suggest that mozilla should automatically save all tabs and their
URLs as the current home page group on exit, just like Operas "continue fromlast
time" feature does.
Coming from Opera, I took some time until i found the "home page / use current
group" button, looking for the reason my "tab set" was gone next time i started
opera.
The least mozilla could do is issue a warning "you have added/removed tabs from
this window, if you do not save this group as your home page group or bookmark,
they will be lost".
