You don't use a xft build (i see no comment that you use one) ?
Please re-run fc-cache .
I tried mozilla 1.4 RC1. The "linux x86 tar.gz format" package from mozilla.org
(http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4rc1/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.4rc1.tar.gz)
does not crash, but it uses an ugly font in displaying web pages. However, the
RPM package from rpmfind.net
(ftp://rpmfind.speakeasy.net/linux/rawhide/1.0/i386/RedHat/RPMS/mozilla-1.4-1.i386.rpm)
still crashes, and it uses nice fonts in displaying web pages. The stack trace
attachment that I submitted earlier is from this mozilla package.
BTW, I am running Redhat 9, kernel 2.4.20, gtk2-2.2.1-4, gtk2-devel-2.2.1-4,
usermode-gtk-1.67-2, gtk+-devel-1.2.10-25, gtk-engines-0.11-16, gtk+-1.2.10-25.
I tried to rerun fs-cache but it didn't help.
Both mozilla 1.3 Linux Xft build and Gtk2 build RPMs from mozilla.org crash.
> Can you please re-run fc-cache ?
I did, but it didn't help -- mozilla still crashes.

Works here. Perhaps there are some .fon files in the path? Or some non-world
readable files?

Problem solved. I deleted the .fon files and reran fc-cache, and mozilla
doesn't crash any more. Thanks!
BTW, wouldn't it be nice if mozilla can express its displeasure with .fon files
in some way other than crashing?
