hi,
by up- or downgrading 1.3 - 1.4 - 1.3 there is a problem with the installation
directory.
1.3 : c:/programme/mozilla - by default
1.4 : c:/programme/mozilla.org - by default
if you change the path to the previous installed, mozilla will work, but you got
two directories for the programm. "directory doesn't exist, will you create it?"
if you leave the installationdirectoryfield as it is, you got the error
xpcom.dll not found in "...."
hope that helps. after detecting this misconfiguration i am able to use the
latest version...
best regards,
andreas wiemer
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. install 1.3
2. install 1.4 leave the field for the directory as it is
3. get error xpcom.dll missing
4. install 1.3 works
5. install 1.4 change the field to the first installation of 1.3
6. start mozilla...
See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200623#c4 for cause and
resolution of that crash.
Also read the release notes:
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.4/README.html. The last lines read:
"If you are experiencing crashes on startup in xpcom.dll it is very likely that
there is an incompatibility with some third-party extension. To work around this
problem, uninstall your previous version of Mozilla, and completely delete the
Mozilla install directory before performing the new install. You will not lose
your profile data (such as bookmarks, preferences and cookies) but any third
party extensions and plugins may be lost."
