User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030428 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030428 Mozilla mail/news worked fine until I installed Mandrake 9.1. Now mozilla mail/news fails to save my newgroup subscriptions, i.e. mozilla does not "remember" that I have subscribed to a group. After I subscribe, then exit mozilla, there are no subscribed newsgroups upon restarting mozilla. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.start mozilla mail/news; subscribe to a newsgroups 2.read messages, etc., then exit mozilla 3.start mozilla, there are no subscribed groups, must resubscribe. Actual Results: mozilla did not save newsgroup subscriptions Expected Results: saved newsgroup subscriptions
I encountered this bug in Mozilla 1.3.1-4.1 upgraded to Mozilla 1.6b to see if it had been fixed. Kept same user profile. bug still present in Mozilla 1.6b
I've now encountered this bug on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 I had no problem before, in any version of Mozilla. Then my notebook needed service, so I transferred all my email to another computer, and a few days later transferred back, and now I cannot keep a subscription to a newsgroup. (My notebook has needed service before, and this transfer has not caused a problem in the past.) Mozilla's Profile Manager utility leaves something to be desired in this process. It may be that something went wrong in deleting and renaming and faking profiles, but I don't see why that should matter, once a profile is chosen and set up. (If this is the cause of the problem, I guess there should be an easy fix, and maybe it would prompt somebody to enhance Profile Manager.)
I've solved the problem on W2K setup. In the newsgroup root folder, Mozilla displays a menu with three headings, "Newsgroups", "Accounts", and "Advanced Features". Under "Accounts" I selected "View settings for this account" Under "Server Settings" the "newsrc file" and the "Local directory" were not the same. I changed "Local directory" to the same as "newsrc file" (minus the ".rc" extension) and everything works fine. This problem arose, because I customized the Local Directory NOT to be in W2K's default location. I did this because, generally, I don't like storing data in the "Documents and Settings" directory, and because I need to access the same Mozilla profile from more than one user account on this computer. If this failure to automatically unify directories is not a but, then Mozilla needs an enhancement to make it _really_ easy to do it manually.
Repoter: have you changed the path to your .newsrc file in the Account Settings? Judging from the comment #3, this is probably a dupe of bug 99238, see also bug 171351.
(In reply to comment #4) > Repoter: have you changed the path to your .newsrc file in the Account Settings? > Judging from the comment #3, this is probably a dupe of bug 99238, see also bug > 171351. Seeing on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040910 No path change was done intentionally. Paths appear to be the same. Used cut/paste to sync. No effect. Seeing on both Win2k and XPprosp2. Using Mozilla backup to move profiles and file between two machines: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/mozillabackup.html
(In reply to comment #5) Deleted and readded mail account. Problem no longer occurs. THanks all.
