Message Body As... should (also?) be a Edit... Preferences... Mail & Newsgroups... Message Display setting. A colleague just found that one for me after months of Mozilla usage. Similarly with Display Attachments Inline. I look for those kinds of default behavior setup options under Preferences (though I can see some logic to keeping them under View too. 2) Minor irritant: File.. Compact Folders... should be singular: Compact Folder. It only compacts one folder, no? Is there any way it can be plural? I was quite reluctant to try it the first time I encountered it for fear all my folders would get compacted. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

File|Compact Folders does, in fact, compact all the folders, at least for POP and Local accounts. Context menu's Compact This Folder only acts on the current folder. It used to be that File|Compact Folders was disabled when the account was selected, you had to select a folder to enable it -- that was just bad UI, and was fixed in bug 142748. See bug 94251. No it's not fixed, bug 233109 with inherited folder attribute might be better.

I fully agree that view message body should be at least by account. I came here intending to add such a request. Especially useful if following mailing lists (set to plain text only) Often personal emails are preferred in html. Per folder would be better, especially if it is inherited by subfolders. Like this, setting the base folder for the account would set the entire account. --- For the point 2, compact folders, in fact it compacts all the folders of the currently selected account only. It would be better to say "Compact all folders of current account" (There is enough space, as entries above are already long enough.)
The "'2' pural - singular" issue has to be ignored here, we cant track 2 different issues in 1 report. I doubt that the "should be account specific" issue will/can be fixed in SeaMonkey MailNews. A fix will be done in MailNews Core or nowhere.

As part of investigating an issue with some emails displaying as blank I have recently spent quite some time trying to find the setting for showing mail as HTML instead of plain text. I was relatively confident that such a setting existed and was set to plain text however despite repeated searches of general settings and account specific settings I could not find it.
The reason I could not find this setting is that it isn't in the settings at all - you have to change it via the extra menu and then the view menu.
This really needs to be in settings (all settings should be in settings) as well as in the menu.
All the comments about it being better as a per account setting or a per folder setting are out of scope for the original request that this setting appear in the settings. Such changes would alter where in settings it would appear and would be better done first but such changes are separate.
