Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030716
I don't have the need for Mozilla's junk mail controls since I'm already sorting
my mails using SpamAssassin before it arrives in my Inbox on the IMAP servers I
use. Therefore I wanted to completely disable junk mail controls. I disabled
the checkbox "Enable junk mail controls" in the Junk Mail Controls dialog for
all IMAP accounts (and Local Folders aswell, though I don't use that one) but it
doesn't work. Message display still shows the brown pane "mozilla thinks this
message is junk" etc. for most messages.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
No special setups. It does always occur, also on 1.4a.
Expected Results:
No junk-mail related stuff displayed at all. Mozilla should disable all
junk-mail related calculations and displays when the option is unchecked.

In addition, it appears that if the checkboxes are unchecked _before_ the
inbox folder is accessed for the first time, it works alright, i.e., it never
flags messages as being junk. It's only when if you disable the junk mail
controls after having already accessed the folder once that it doesn't seem
to have any effect.

Is this a duplicate of bug 192119? (See my comment in bug 207031.)

I cannot confirm this being the same problem as in the bugs mentioned; the
address book field is filled in; additionally, it does save changes in the
dialog box. It just doesn't have any effect. In addition, I have in the
meantime occasionally (albeit rarely) seen some messages flagged as junk mail
although Junk Mail Controls has never been enabled for the account, I have
disabled it immediately after account creation, to prevent it from ever being
used (see my comment #1 in this bug report). Normally this seems to work but
not always.

I ditto this bug
To be honest, the junk mail controls have been a pain since they first came in
(1.3 wasn't it?)
Why on earth they are on by default, imitating MS? :)
I'm currently suffering this bug (xp, 1.5 final) and cannot get the controls to
disable, going to try removing the account, re adding it and then disabling
controls before i access any folders
A mate says they are off by default in TB, please do this in seamonkey too!
I use SpamAssasin + rblsmptd and recieve very little junk mail as is, so I don't
want to rely on anything client-side for spamfiltering.
I appreciate the developers looking out for other end-users, but this feature
just isn't needed in my case.
Thanks very much for considering the development of a way to disable this
altogether.

Same story here, can't disable junkmail controls. Because of server side
filtering and a multitude of clients I would rather do without it.
Changing status to confirmed.
Platform here is Solaris 9 Sparc, Mozilla 1,6b (2003120501)
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
From bug 202812 comment 7: Add this to userChrome.css:
#junkBar { display: none; }

Thunderbird and Mozilla needs a one-click "Enable Junk Controls" (or disable,
whatever).
There are currently at least 3 different places where junk mail handling options
are added:
1. Tools menu -> Junk Mail Controls...
2. the messages overview panel's Junk Mail Status column
3. the junk bar in message view

I can duplicate this annoying behavior in Mozilla 1.7.5, and not just for IMAP.
It occurs even in POP downloaded mail. I have disabled all junk mail controls
on all mail accounts, and I still get that annoying brown banner on messages
saying "Mozilla thinks this message is junk mail". I don't want Mozilla to
think about spam at all. I have done all the spam processing I want on the
server side.

Any additional info using Seamonkey trunk? safe mode, new profile, etc?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question.
If you would like me to download a different product/version for testing, please provide a download link.
I don't know what you mean by "safe mode" or "new profile".
I'm not willing to create a new email address and wait for it to start attracting spam, but I've seen this behavior persist (at random intervals) after completely removing the client-side profile in my ~/.mozilla-thunderbird directory.

http://quality.mozilla.org/bug-writing-guidelines has info on safe mode, profiles, etc. it is for Firefox, but the instructions are almost exactly the same for SM. Trunk is at ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/nightly/latest-trunk/.
