User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624
Build Identifier: Firebird 0.6.1 (Windows; Win98; en-US;) Build of 8/2?/03

I downloaded and installed the Windows version of Firebird 0.6.1. I ran it, and
a browser window opened. However, it showed the status bar message "resloving
host www.mozilla.org", and then locked up. I had to close it with the Windows
"Close Program" Task Manager. The window was completely unresponsive to having
any menu item clicked.

I downloaded and installed the most recent build (presumably 8/2/03, I
downloaded and installed it the morning of 8/4) and ran MozillaFirebird.exe, and
got the same error message but with the unresloved host being "texturizer.net".
The window was again unresponsive. I typed texturizer.net in the Mozilla 1.4
address bar, and it popped right up.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Using Windows Explorer, find MozillaFirebird.exe
2.Double click MozillaFirebird.exe
3.

Actual Results:
The Firebird browser window opened, and froze up at "resolving host texturizer.net".

Expected Results:
Firebird should have opened up and displayed whatever the default homepage is.

Open applications include Norton Antivirus, Norton Task Scheduler, Mailwasher
(which checks for new mail), Eudora, Trayday (which shows the current day in the
system tray), Atomic Clock.

I've tried Firebird without Eudora and Mailwasher, with the same results.

Ok, I duped several bugs against this one since this bug is the best documented
of all of them. All the other bugs happened on WinXP, but this one happened on
Win98.

I can't verify it myself on Windows 2000, but the repeated reports seem to
indicate, that this might really be an issue. I'm marking this as NEW, because
of the number of duplicates.

I had exactly the same problem. In my case, it's got to do with the favorites
import. I found out that if I removed a link to "My Documents", FB would start
again (in XP). But on another system (2000) I had to remove all links to
folders/drives/network locations in the Favorites.
I forgot to mention that this only happens when FB is creating a new profile.

I had this same problem, removed links to files on network drives like in
comment 7, and everything worked fine. I had this problem in 0.6 too before I
upgraded to 0.6.1 After Firebird ran successfully for the first time, I
restored the bookmarks I deleted back to IE and everything works, except those
bookmarks are not in firebird.

RE: Comment 7 - How can I do this if FB will never start?
Remove the links to folders or (network)drives in your Internet Explorer favorites.
Since Simon duped my bug report to this one here: in my case (win NT) living behind a Proxy) i just want to throw in that in my perfectly reproducible case 1. Firbird does not freeze, it crashes with protection fault after kicking rasmon out of service. 2. It does so on trying to name querying the default home page (afair this is texturizer.net) if you press stop quick enough, however, you might be able to configure the proxy settings and end up with a running firebird. Cheers Thomas
The fix if you want to keep your local links:
Create a profile by starting firebird with the -p switch first
Exit Profile Manager without starting Firebird
Open (profile folder)/prefs.js in a text editor
Add user_pref("browser.bookmarks.added_static_root", true);
Save it
Restart Firebird and it'll work fine.
I was unsuccesful with getting rid of the local links in IE but adding the line
to prefs.js (Comment 16)worked. Thanks. Hooray! Firebird - here I come!!

This is a duplicate of Bug 205129 which was marked fixed two days ago after
Pierre Chanial ported a bookmarks patch from Mozilla. Could someone who had the
