Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 0.2

A mail merge feature should be added to Mozilla, so that I can give a list of
email addresses, and use something like "<display_name>" to insert the display
name corresponding to the email address in the address book.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Are you just looking for the Mailing List feature that is already present in the
Addressbook?

I don't see the point of your feature request, because the list function can be
used for the task you are describing.
this is what address book mailing lists are designed for.

Comment #1 is not the answer for the feature request.

The meaning was:
A serial letter feature should be added to Mozilla/Thunderbird.

The idea is, that it should be possible to write personalized mails to a bunch
of people without changing every mail by hand.

Example:
1.) Write a message like:
Hello <name.first> <name.last>, how do you do.
2.) Select 2 or more persons from adress book
3.) Click: Send mail
4.) Mozilla will replace the tags <name...> by the persons real name (using
adress book entry)
Reopening. Changing summary to be more descriptive.
