User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030922 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030922 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 This is extremely predictable and annoying as hell. I have a list of say ten urls within a specific domain and upon working with autocomplete I type until I select the url from the list of already visited pages I want to revisit. I select the url and what happens is the browser launches a new Tab View and catenates a prefix and suffix as follows: Original file path file:///home/mjd/JavascriptReferences/coreReference15/you-are-here.html Resulting url path guess from autocomplete. http://www.file.com///home/mjd/JavascriptReferences/coreReference15/you-are-here.html.org/ I'm guessing there are more than one bug here Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start typing your pathway you want 2. autocomplete shows list of already visited from history 3. select one from the list 4. browser tries to check for url and if not presently with an http:// it adds it with a .com to the protocol such that its http://www.protocol.com/pathway.org New tab view results Actual Results: 404 Error or worse an actual site with the domain name. Expected Results: Pathway selected and processed within the current view whether it be a file:/// or an https:// or an http:// path header.
Confirming w/ Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20030925 Firebird/0.7+ One needs at least two file:/// entries for this bug to present itself and only occurs with mouse clicks and not arrowing. It also seems to be an inconsistent bug, appearing only some of the time. This is somewhat like the fixed bug 178262. Minoring since workaround (down arrow) exists. noririty: can you take a look at this, since your patch for bug 177618 fixed bug 178262 but apparently not this. Also, this might be Linux-only.

Tested on Firefox 1.0.5 with Mac OS X and cannot reproduce it. Will test on Firefox 1.07 for OS X and when I get to my Linux box I'll test it against Firefox 1.0.7. The behavior is not reproducible in 1.0.5 nor 1.0.7.
