Hi All,
I am an on site consultant with Customer running Mozilla over two counties. I
have noticed that the users never remember to compact their mail folders. This,
even when they are told to do so. They either don't understand or just plain
forget. (They forget to defrag as well.)
Problem: many of my customers send and receive a lot of large attachments.
Their mail folders grow and grow and grow to the point where compacting them
crashes Mozilla. The last one I saw was a 143 Meg inbox that I managed to recover
into a new, tidy 8K inbox.
Would it be possible, in the fashion of the option that allows you to delete
you trash box on exit, to have a similar option to compact all folders on exit?
(It should probably have a "please wait ..." message pop up, if is determined
that the process will take over 5 seconds or so.)
I have had only three customers defect back to OE. One of them was over
this issue. (He never remembered to compact and got tired of paying me to
straighten things out. He never defragged either.) A little "bozo" proofing
would have saved this customer.
Many thanks,

Hi All,
I am the original reporter. If you would permit me, I would like
to reopen this bug.
As I now have my folder compact at 500K, I have noticed that it likes
to compact during my initial download of my daily download of 250 pieces
of spam and swen/sobig viruses. If I am not real careful, my filters conflict
with the compact operation: messing my filters up big time.
In addition to being able to compact at 500K, if I could also do it when
I exit Mozilla, it would solve the conflict with my initial download
conflict problems at start up.
Many thanks,

Hi All,
I just occured to me that if the automatic download would hold off
until after the folders were compacted, that this would not be an issue.
So, as an alternate suggestion, do not allow mail to be downloaded
(popped) until after compacting is finished. This would also solve the
problem. I actually like this idea better than compacting on exit.
