Details
I sent a short HTML message with an attached Word document to a person who's got an Exchange server and they told me that all they saw was a garbled message and a message saying: " The Microsoft Exchange Server received an Internet message that could not be processed. To view the original message content, open the attached message. " I can provide the original message privately upon request since it contains confidential information.

Bart Decrem: Can you just create a small sample message with a dumb little Word document and provide that instead? Save the sent message as a .EML file and attach it to this bug. See bug 236239 -- I'm curious to know if either the sent message, or the message on the recipient's machine, shows the attachment as "appledouble" -- that seems to be a common issue. See also bug 156349, but that seems to be a very different problem.

unfortunately, this was so long ago, I don't maintain logs, such as the name of the person who experienced this problem or the file that had the problem. :(
