Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030701
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030701

If one middle-clicks (or right clicks and selects 'Open link in new tab') on a
link within a standard minimal javascript poppup box (ie one with no toolbars,
menus, etc.) then currently nothing happens at all (although works fine if 'Open
in new window' is selected instead).

I think the link should be opened in a new tab from the main/calling window from
which the poppup was opened from.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a javascript poppup window on a website (eg: main list on page
http://www.bugs.bham.ac.uk/getinvolved/societies.asp?action=all)
2. right-click on a link within the poppup

Actual Results:
Nothing happens

Expected Results:
Expected Result: a new tab would be opened within the javascript poppup window.

however in many cases this would be undesirable, so I propose that a new tab
should open in the main calling window.

The only problem I see with the above proposed solution (apart from any major
technical issues) is in cases where the poppup is opened from an already opened
poppup.

In this case the tab would need to be transfered down a couple of levels till it
reached the original 'main' window.

The only other possible solution would be to disable the option to open new tabs
from links within javascript poppups, personally I think this is a bit of a
cop-out though.
Sorry, steps to repoducte should read:

1. Open a javascript poppup window on a website (eg: main list on page
http://www.bugs.bham.ac.uk/getinvolved/societies.asp?action=all)
2. right-click on a link within the poppup
3. select 'Open Link in New Tab'

...and then nothing happens

I'm fairly sure this is a duplicate of bug 143866 (the summary isn't great, but
if you read the comments the issues people there are experiencing appear to be
the same). But if you disagree, please feel free to reopen this.

This bug is similar but not the same as bug #143866 as it relates specifically
to the action of clicking "Open link in new window" from the
right-mouse-button-menu on a link within a poppup window and nothing happening
rather than typing ctrl+t and getting a blank screen.

A slightly better example is
1. open website http://www.localbee.co.uk,
2. click on "Today's Weather" link in left hand navigation column (poppup box
should open up)
3. right click on the 'Extended Forecast' to the bottom right of poppup
4. select "Open Link in New Tab"

Actual result:
Nothing happens

Expected result:
- link to open in new tab (not good as no tab list for poppup), or
- link to open in new tab in main window, or
- no "Open Link in New Tab" option to be available

Tweaked summary

Ok, I understand what you mean now I think. I'll confirm the bug, although it
might be more of a solution to bug 143866 than a seperate issue. But that's for
someone else to decide.
