Details

I was trying out Mozilla Milestone 12 at work under Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 4. Our proxy server requires user authentication (a firewall user name and password) to get onto the Internet. I set up the firewall settings in Preferences-->Advanced-->Proxies. When I try to go to a web page outside our intranet, I get the usual proxy authentication dialog box, common to both Internet Explorer and Netscape. It then asks me if I want to save the user information for use later, and I click OK for that. However, that's where the normal operation ends. Occasionally I can get out to the Internet, but only after clicking through the proxy user authentication dialog box many, many times. Even though it saved the user name and password the first time, it seems to "forget" them. It also seems like Mozilla wants authentication for downloading EVERY item on the web page, such as pictures. (I tried this on www.yahoo.com, although I've noticed it on many other web pages.) Most of the time, however, I cannot get out to the Internet at all. The DOS debugging window gives me a "Document: Done" message when trying to load an Internet page, but the browser window is completely blank. The dinosaur and bar animation in the lower left hand corner stop moving, as if it is done loading the page. I previously installed older builds of Mozilla on the computer, but I deleted them properly, as described in the uninstalling of Mozilla on the mozilla.org web page.
