Hi, i downloaded the last version of Mozilla ( 1999122108 nighty version ? :) i set the proxy but as i try to connect, 1) i have no dialogbox asking me for my user/password to log on the proxy 2) i get 407 Proxy Authentication Required Authentication failed. i also tried the official M12 version i read in the Buglist that this problem is solved in the M12 Version but that doesn't seem to work yet Don't hesitate to ask me if you want more informations chagam@hotmail.com

Given that bug 15927 was reported first, it has a large CC list, and there's no real difference in the quality of the report, shouldn't dups be swapped here?

I have to agree with mpt on this. However I'm not going to do the switch. Instead, for now, I'm copying all the attributes of the other bug to this bug, [BETA][DOGFOOD] & [PDT-].
I do not know whether I have time to try to fix this, but I would like to be notified if someone ist faster than I.

Attached is my proposed first patch. It is far from being perfect yet (I am sure caching of the proxy password won't work) but I would really appreciate comments and feedback about it.

Added basic proxy auth capability but its not persistent as yet. I have filed a separate bug for the same - 24329 and will try and knock that off as well in next day or so. But for now you should be able to login on a proxy as well.
I still have no luck getting past our authenticating proxy server using build 2000012008 using MacOS 8.6. The login dialog appears, as well as a new database dialog, but no connection is made.
Gagan - it seems as though I could connect through the proxy but I am getting many re-login dialogs interupting the transfers.

Today's build seems to be ignoring the proxy preferences so I can not test this. I can not select manual and enter a server address. Entering a new bug. (2000012501)
This seems to be a problem still in M13. I was able to connect through our transparent proxy by setting to Direct connection. I was still unable to access stuff begind the firewall. After installing M13, none of the options work in either version M12 or M13.
Very sorry, our tech finally got in and said there was some log file overflowed on the firewall. Oddly, I was still able to get out on NS4. There does still appear to be the login loop when using automatic proxy configuration, but the manual works OK, however, I am not able to set the "No Proxy For:" field. Whenever I enter something into that field, the OK button stops working. Again, sorry about the confusion.

m16 release (build id 2000061311) does not prompt for authentication dialog on win nt 4 when connecting to a netscape proxy 3.5 in http 1.1 mode also no message for access denied appears in the browser only a popup telling me that mozilla.org can not be found

This is also true with version 3.52 of the Netscape proxy. btw shouldn't we move the milestone to M17 ?

proxy auth by itself worked ok. But the persistence was broken (see bug 24329) becuz of some recent checkins for SOCKS support. Fix is now checked in for both these bugs.

Sorry to bring this up again, but using 2000071709 / WinNT I'm still unable to authenticate. The dialog box isn't there for me to add my userID / password.
Tried a fresh install of 2000071810 (WinNT) and still no luck. Mozilla doesn't seem to be even attempting a connection to the proxy (MS Proxy v2). Tried looking at the Mozilla console for any info but nothing relevant appeared.

Our company uses CheckPoint Firewall-1 and requires proxy authetication to get onto the internet. This works for me on NT using build 2000072008 and previous releases. I specify the firewall as proxy, it prompts me on the first page for userid / password and remembers it for the session. Just to test I set my proxy to point to an internal proxy (delegated) which then proxies to the firewall. Here are the log lines of interest: 00002725.sanlam.co.za - - [21/Jul/2000:14:04:02 +0200] "GET http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22405 HTTP/1.0" 407 323 0.003+0.098:RW:0s 00002725.sanlam.co.za - e770962 [21/Jul/2000:14:05:17 +0200] "GET http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22405 HTTP/1.0" 200 24961 0.003+10.474:RW:0b It gets the 407 then the next line it has the id and gets a 200... Although IIRC Firewall-1 ignores the Proxy-Authenticate header and wants the http 1.0 proxy hack of WWW-Authenticate header...

Hello on NT with Build ID 2000080104 No dialog boxes appear to ask user/psswd Thi sworked fine with build ID 2000073120. If I close the mozilla windows I still have a mozilla process running.

We cannot reproduce internally. asa, can you have someone check mozilla bits? Also, this is a meta bug, marking Resolved Fixed for bugs attached to this one. lhirlimann - please write new bug with exact proxy config, and all details step-by-step to reproduce.
