Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7
Build Identifier: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.5/
Upon loading the browser or opening a new tab or window, the main display
section of the GUI (the area the web page loads into) constantly shifts 1 pixel
up and down (humping the screen). If produced by opening the browser initially,
the behaviour can be stopped by typing (and entering) an address into the
location bar (eg: 'about:'). However if a new tab or window is opened typing a
new location will NOT stop the jumping. This does not happen in mail. If the
sidebar is open the sidebar does not jump, only the main display area. The
jumping 'pauses' if a right-click on the Windows taskbar mozilla section is
active. Firebird does not display this behaviour.
I recently upgraded from mozilla 1.3, which never displayed such behaviour. I
have noticed on both versions however that sections of the main window are often
'burnt' into another part of the display (always a horizontal section of about
50 pixels high spanning the entire display width) when a form button is clicked
or a right-click menu opens or a link is followed. The copied section appears to
be only a display glitch, links and objects on the page are still in the same
posistion. The window redraws correctly. This issue is more prevalent in
image/form heavy pages. I felt this may be in some way related however this may
be more appropriate as a second bug report.
I have since uninstalled 1.5 and attempted to revert to 1.3, however the
installer (.exe form) does not function ("Too many network errors") - I'm sure
I'll find a .zip somewhere.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Broswer
2. ...
(obviously something so obvious would have been reported eariler - I did search)
Actual Results:
Window jumps until a location is entered. Window jumps if a new tab or window is
opened.
Expected Results:
Jump-free browsing goodness.
Daniel, do you happen to have an empty Peronal Toolbar (bookmark toolbar)? If
so, this is a duplicate of bug 219643 which has been fixed in builds after 1.5
(1.6a, for example) and you could try upgrading and see if the problem persists.
Thanks Jon - The personal toolbar was enabled but had no content, unchecking it
in View -> Show/Hide stopped the jumping. Sorry for the dupe, looks like I
didn't search all bug status before *slaps self*.
