Subject of the message should not be used for determining threads. This is
because many mails from different people could have the same subject. This is
very true of generic subjects like "Hi", "(no subject)", "Re: (ur mail)" etc.
Instead mozilla should use the following:
Message-ID, References, In-Reply-To
Unfortunately microsoft Outlook does not support these headers (as they always
have to use something other than the standard ;-) )
They use the following headers:
Thread-topic: Thread-index:
Threading by subject could be implemented, but it *should* be optional. The user
may set a config value depending whether they want it enabled or not.
