User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 In the mail reader, choose Edit / Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings. For a given account, choose "Server". Check both the checkboxes "Leave messages on server" and "Delete messages from server when they are deleted or moved from Inbox". The messages are left on server, but they are not deleted when they are deleted or moved from Inbox. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Check the checkbox "Delete messages from server when they are deleted or moved from Inbox" 2. Send yourself an email, click "Get messages" so that it is read into your Inbox. 3. Delete the mail from Inbox (read or unread). Actual Results: If using the ISP's webmail utility in a browser, I can see that the message has not been deleted from the server. Expected Results: Deleted the mail from the server, when it was deleted or moved from Inbox. I have tested this on three different email account in three different ISPs, and the problem persists.
Reporter, have you compacted the folder ? Are you using POP or IMAP ?
Did you check your mails after deleting them from Inbox?
I can confirm this bug - it happens to me too. I don't have any compression on, I'm using Pop3, and the mail always stays on my server. It should be deleted when mail is moved to all folders including the Junk folder. Possibly related to bug 154630 ? Pressing Get Messages definitely does not delete the messages from the server.
Will, how do you move the mail to other folders, including the Junk folder? By a filter rule or manually by hand? Mail only gets deleted when moved by hand! I you do it manually but it won't be deleted from server, we've to go one step further. When "leave messages on server" is selected, we use the file popstate.dat (in your profile folder/Mail/account) to keep track which mail have been downloaded but left on the server. Normally the first character in the line is a "k". When a message is marked for deleted it changes to an "d". My question is, is the message gonna marked (messages in the file are listed with their UIDL, you can find the right line by matching the UIDL to the mails X-UIDL: header in the source view)?
Claus Holm, it appears from your original report that you are not talking about messages that have been filtered. I believe your bug is a duplicate of bug 154630; please check, and mark this bug as a dupe if it does match. Will Small, you apparently never checked back to see Christian's comment 4. Like him, I am assuming that the messages which are not being removed from the server are messages you have deleted or moved using filters. This issue is bug 89034. As I just commented there, this problem is largely if not entirely solved by the introduction (in Moz 1.6) of an explicit filter action "Delete from POP server."
No response from reporter; duping. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 154630 ***
