I noticed this while working on bug 227633.

Steps to Reproduce:

Since the directories are named '*/old/*',
I guess the files should be removed ultimately,
but, at the moment, some methods seem to still be in use...

Reassigning from '[e-mail]'(default) to me.

I'm seeking advice on whether theses files are still useful or could be removed...

mapi/old can be removed - we just use it to see how the previous mapi
implementation worked, but it can be removed now.

Can you do the removal ?
(On 1.9 trunk, and possibly 1.8 branch.)
