User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 When clicking with the middle mouse button for the first time somewhere in a page (not on a link), an icon appears and I am able to scroll the page with the mouse. I think this is a normal behaviour. But now, when clicking with the middle mouse button again, the browser loads a page in the current tab. At first, I couldn't reproduce what page it loaded (it seemd to be one I haven't been before), but then I found out that when selecting some words in the text of the page before trying those middle-clicks, the browser starts a google search with the selected word(s) and loads one of the result pages (not always the first) into the current tab. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select some text on the current page 2. Click the middle mouse, scroll a bit in the page, then click the middle mouse again Actual Results: The browser contacts google.com and loads one of the search results. Expected Results: Nothing, I think ;) I'm using SuSE Linux 9.0 with KDE.
welcome to the fun world of middlemouse behaviour on linux. filter on middlemouse in about:config and see if something changed those prefs (like .contentLoadURL etc)
By design middle click launches the URL that would be loaded if your paste buffer was entered in the Address bar (in the case of non-URL words it's the google search). As Mike says, there are prefs to control this behaviour, I can't remember them off hand, sorry.

Thx. Setting middlemouse.contentLoadURL to false seems to solve the problem :)
