User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 you may want to ref: bug# 231557. this seems to also discuss the problem, but I'm submitting a new bug because it didn't look like that bug was submitted properly. Mozilla will not display a transparent background for a flash swf; IE does it perfectly. the correct use of the wmode tag can be seen in the source of the above URL. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. go to www.northshorecorvetteclub.org/testflash.html 2. the flash animation should be transparent 3. go there again with IE to see it as it should appear. Actual Results: the flash animation appears withOUT a transparent background. Expected Results: the background of the flash animation SHOULD have been "see-through"; the wallpaper should be visible thru the animation. I have demonstrated this bug on windows 98, windows 2k, and xp. I have found NO workaround. (at least not one that really works)

btw - I searched the components, and didn't find one that seemed to fit this. I'm assuming this would be called an "embed" issue.. ? Bob

WORKSFORME using Firefox build 20040210. IE and Firefox give me the exact same results. I have Shockwave Flash 7.0 r19 plugin installed, in case that matters.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040219 Shockwave Flash 7.0 r19 I´m too seeing this on Win98, bug 93959 has some useful info. Bug 93959 [WMODE] Evangelize Macromedia to enable partial transparency/layering/z-index in Flash But I don´t understand why this bug is seen in Win98 only. Doesn´t seem to be an error of the web page, as it works with gecko on other OS. So is his an error of Win98, or an error of Mozilla running on Win98?

Using Flash Player 7.0.19 and Firefox 0.9.3 / 0.9.2, Windows 2000 / XP What I found is that this bug only happens on Firefox 0.9.3. Version 0.9.2 doesn't have this bug (and I used the same Flash Player version in both cases using different windows installations with Windows 2000. I also tested in two Windows XP SP1 installations with same flash player with 0.9.2 and 0.9.3 the bug is ALWAYS there in 0.9.3 and never on 0.9.2

I would like to add my two cents. The linux version of Mozill also does not honor the transparent mode of Flash. This can be seen on my "Action Page" at http://www.trcompu.com/ActionPages/ActionPage1.html If you use the Windows version of Mozilla 1.7 or Netscape 7.1 or Internet Explorer 5 or 6, the Flash background is transparent. However, so far, no matter what I do, it is not transparent in Linux mode. I have even tried the latest Mozilla 1.8a4. No dice. Yes I am using the latest versions.

Bug 272175 has been marked as dupe of another. I think you are dealing with the same problem here, at this bug.

2 issues here: 1. Object tag is for ActiveX control, Win IE only. Embed tag is for Netscape based browsers such as Firefox. The bug URL is not a valid test since Firefox doesn't support the object tag for embedding Flash. 2. Transparent Windowless, WMODE, is supported on all Flash Player supported browsers on Mac 9, 10, and Windows version 6r40 and later. Current Version is 7r19. However, currently wmode does not work on the Linux platform. Macromedia is investigating and will update as information comes in.

based on comment #12 (thanks for this comment !) I mark this one invalid. The problem with linux will be fixed by Macromedia and it works with the embed tag.
