I keep my mail client iconified/minimized and open it to check for new mail.
This is highly inefficient since I have to check at regular intervals for a new
mail. I think it would be great if thunderbird would put in a string like
*new mail* in the frame title. The first couple of words are displayed in the
gnome windowlist and I can immediately know if there is a new mail or not.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
See also bug 137462.

Also, the audible alert for new mail can be used (or should be; I understand
there are, or were, some difficulties in getting this working under Linux).
Severity: normal → enhancement
Hi,
I fixed this problem by using the x-desktop integration
extension for firefox. Now in my gnome panel notifier,
am main icon is shown when ever I get a new mail.
thanks
keep up the good work

Is there a reason why we need to install an extension on TB linux in order to have a fd.o new mail icon in system tray ?

Why is this feature in the windows version and not in the *nix versions ? The standard (freedesktop.org) exists.
