User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 I receive this error message when viewing such sites as Ebay and Hotmail. As i use these regularly it is becoming so annoying whilst surfing that I am having to use Internet Explorer instead. I don't know how to put it in technical jargon but it seems to happen with sites that load ads, originally the ads would just not appear and there would be the broken link symbol in the top left corner, but now this error comes up numerous times. I have tried installing 1.7a as well as 1.5 as well as firefox as well as netscape 7.1 and they all display the same problem. I have read on the internet that it is a problem associated with NT/2000 systems to do with Virtual Private Networks and dial-up settings, however, to my knowledge I don't have a VPN and I connect via a DSL modem. I realise this problem has already been raised in the forum, however, no resolve was brought to it so I thought I would raise it again. The strange thing is I have my Laptop coming off the same ADSL router running the same Mozilla and not only does it not bring up this error, it also loads the ads which appear to cause the problem in the first place on my desktop. Hope you can help. Let me know if you require any further info, I am running Windows XP pro. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Load www.hotmail.com and log into email 2. When trying to load both ads http://g.msn.com/8HMBENAU/8496??PS=8313 and http://g.msn.com/0AD0000F/567757.2?? PID=2203074&UIT=P&TargetID=1049727&AN=21745&PG=HOTH02 this error 623 appears 3. After pressing OK the page loads normally apart from these ads which it does not display at all Expected Results: Internet explorer does not load these ads either, however, instead of displaying this error message it displays a broken link red cross in the top left hand corner where the ad should appear.
try this : enter "about:config" as URL, enter "autodial" in the filterbox, doubleclick on the result (network-autodial-helper.enabled) und change that "true" to "false"
(In reply to comment #1) > try this : > enter "about:config" as URL, enter "autodial" in the filterbox, doubleclick on > the result (network-autodial-helper.enabled) und change that "true" to "false" Thankyou very much, this stopped the error from coming up! However, I was wondering why the ads can't be displayed? May this be related to the fact that on my desktop I have the program Spybot - S & D installed, and on my laptop I do not? Also, may this be related to why with Mozilla I cannot use the quick links on www.ebay.com.au with my desktop? It comes up with an error stating "the connection was refused when attempting to contact altfarm.mediaplex.com."
Mozilla tries to start the windows dialup if Mozilla thinks that the network connectiuon is down. You must have an error in your RAS-configuration (see start/systemcontrol/internet/connections) that you get this error. It must be something in your system you can't reach the servers with the ads (and Mozilla thinks that the network connection is down) but I can`t tel you which software does this... (firewall ?)
