Once a week a big newsletter is sent to me. Opening it takes about 2 minutes on
my 1600 MHz Athlon system.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the zipped newletter stored in eml-format from
http://www.bokelberg.de/Download/blockingEmail.zip
2. Unpack it
3. Open it with Mozilla Mail

Actual Results:
The ui totally freezes fro about 60-120 seconds, even the browser.
Confirming with both Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a5)
Gecko/20041113 and Thunderbird 0.9 (20041103).
I opened the attachment with a text editor and then copied the text to the mail
program.
The preview works fine and fast, but opening in a separate window either for
viewing either for editing is very slow and the ui becomes totally unresponsive.

Still the same with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8b2)
Gecko/20050309

Still able to reproduce / Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US;
rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050405
This also happens in the message pane when I select the message and then change
View->Message body as->Plain text (with both HTML options I get a relatively
fast display in message pane).

Please someone mark this bug as new as it's reproducible and it has a testcase.

Still here.

not especially slow given the 500k size and doesn't freeze UI anywhere that I can see. a couple seconds to display in mail or in browser (saved as a .html file). Even editing as new from local folder. machine is a 3yr old amd 2.4.

Editing as new might be slow with spell check turned on.

With no response from Ralph or Troodon, resolving as WFM.

If you can reproduce by saving the message in a local folder with a recent version or nightly build, then please re-open.

Plase see comment #2 for steps to reproduce this. The point here is that the preview in pane view in HTML "rendering" mode works fine, but for everything else the message loading is very slow. Why the preview in HTML mode is so fast any other kind of loading is much slower?
Also, the loading IS very slow, even without spell check. I mean ~15 minutes to load the testcase for editing in Mail&News - 750 MHz Duron, 512 MiB. For comparision, the browser loads a 2 MiB plain text file almost instantaneous.

And the problem is serious because while loading, the Seamonkey ui becomes totally unresponsive.

Yep, I'm still able to reproduce this with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; es-ES; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060516 SeaMonkey/1.0.2

No response because I only get notified of status' changes to avoid spam. :-/
Using File->Open in Mail&News takes ~60 seconds with unresponsive iu to load the message in plane text mode and ~3 seconds in HTML mode with responsive iu. Same if loading it in Composer.

If you see this using http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/nightly/latest-trunk/ trunk build please reopen the bug
